I love my wife
...and can't wait to see her again in 4 days. Just throwing that our there, internets; man cannot live on geekiness alone.
Bwahahaha
Randall's booth is *tiny*; thank goodness he was next to the PA one, or I probably wouldn't have seen him.
I can't say enough of how AMAZINGLY nice he is. Even with the substantial line waiting for him, and an endless torment of fans, he took the time to speak and connect with each person that came up to the booth. Apparently he's never been to Disneyland; I need to get more interesting things to talk about.
So, to temporarily suspend my dedication to Christian morality, I must now inspire jealousy. Forgive me, and take this:
Day 3, done
Another great day a the con; obviously sad times that it's going to be over tomorrow (which is already today).
Highlights:
- Making it into the Heroes panel, which included:
- The *full cast*
- THE ENTIRETY OF THE FIRST EPISODE OF THE NEXT SEASON. Looks to be very sweet, if the rest of the season can deliver.
- Lost panel
- Best questions of any of the panels, with alot of detail put into the Dharma Initiative stuff concurrently happening.
- Cool Chang (I forget his fake names) video shown, where we hear Faraday in the 60s or 70.
- My friend Mike's indepedent film was screened, and it was really good. It obviously got the (unfortunately meager) crowd interested, and they asked him alot of questions afterwards.
- Watching Plan 9 from Outer Space (MST3K-style) with my old friend James; quite fun.
Well, one day to go -- I'll see if I can make it to the Smallville panel, and possibly the Browncoats meetup. Still sad that Elijah doesn't get to see Spongebob. (This weekend is really making me go Randall Monroe).
P.S. True highlight of the day? One of a kind:
The Penny-Arcade guys are really being awesome here. Jerry & Mike have been at their booth pretty much all weekend.
Day 2, done
Comic-con day 2 was great; panels kept me busy enough to not hit the show floor once.
- Made my own waffle at the hotel; fresh, delicious, and satisfying.
- Watchmen footage was awesome, really psyched for it now.
- Family Guy/American Guy panels were great. American Dad was so much more hilarious to watch with 4500 other people.
- Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion are hilarious.
- Mike & Jerry of Penny-Arcade are just so much fun to listen to; an hour Q & A felt like 10 minutes.
- The guy I'm with is in the program guide; ironically, he's the one who's barely spending any time at the show.
I somehow have to get myself up early to make it into the Heroes panel tomorrow. Time to try to sleep.
(Random sappy thought on my mind all day: I'd go home now if I could have my wife back now.)
UPDATE: I totally forgot to mention the fact that I got MAJOR blisters on day one from my crappy old sandals. So, walking through the Gaslamp district today, I bought a new par of Cons and threw away the sandals. I'm still dealing with the damage already done, but it's been a major improvement -- plus, I'm digging the blacked out look they have.
Freakin' Sweet
Low of the day: King of Queens
High of the day: Jerry & Mike
I bought two posters, and could only think to ask about the release of the next game ("Fall").
Abandonment
Wow, I didn't answer the phone when my wife called so that I could finish a podcast I was recording.
I'm terrible.
My Las Vegas Trip
So, I'm on my (beloved) Eee, having just gotten back upstairs from the Stratosphere casino.
I'm really enjoying the time with friends/family; so far this has been quite the experience, and day is just ending.
All of the debauchery and nonsense is somewhat disheartening; apparently every bar I could go to would have me paired up with two girls. Simultaneously. Like Office Space.
I miss my wife; I think it's time to start a countdown calendar.
PulseAudio Progress
There's always plenty of development going (in the bazaar, so to speak), but it's reassuring to see the work of a GNOME developer on the PulseAudio situation. The next Ubuntu release in October is shaping up to be great.
Well, today is iPhone day, again.
Well, congrats to all you new iPhone owners out there; you've certainly informed the interblags about your joy. Don't get me wrong; it pleases me to see other people happy, but it's a bit much to be engulfed in this "ZOMG!!!111 GREATEST PHONEZ EVERZ" business.
I came across a blog post that summarized my thoughts pretty well; it also has gotten me looking more intently at a N95/N96. I'm still holding out for Android, but a guy's gotta keep his options open. I could do the Symbian while keeping some geek cred, right?
